OVERVIEW
The AEAS Official School Preparation Course Year 4 – 6 is designed to actively develop English language ability across the skills of reading, comprehension, vocabulary, writing, listening and speaking. An important element of this course is to teach students the skills necessary to successfully prepare for any test or exam. It familiarises students with the structure of the AEAS test, with test taking, review and feedback of each of the five components of the English language test.
The AEAS Official School Preparation Course Year 4 – 6 introduces students to the English language and general learning and teaching approaches they will encounter in a western classroom as in Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, USA or an English medium international school in any country. At the same time, the course focuses on building the skills necessary to study, review and sit the AEAS English language proficiency test. These test taking skills are important life skills that students will use throughout their academic years.

- What is the Official AEAS School Preparation Course (Year 4–6)?
The Official AEAS School Preparation Course (Year 4–6) is an AEAS-endorsed preparation program designed to help students prepare for the AEAS Year 4–6 test while developing the English skills, test readiness, and confidence needed for a successful transition into Australian primary schools.
Students develop an understanding of the AEAS Year 4–6 test structure, question types, and effective test-taking strategies. Teachers identify each student’s individual strengths and weaknesses and provide targeted support to help students become test-ready and achieve their desired AEAS scores.
The course uses official AEAS preparation booklets and is delivered by AEAS-endorsed teachers with extensive experience preparing international students for AEAS testing and supporting students transitioning into Australian primary school study.
- Who should take the Official AEAS School Preparation Course (Year 4–6)?
The Official AEAS School Preparation Course (Year 4–6) is designed for international students who are planning to apply for Year 4 to Year 6 entry into Australian independent primary schools.
It is suitable for young learners who want to prepare for the AEAS Year 4–6 test, improve their English language skills, become familiar with Australian school culture and classroom expectations, and develop the confidence needed for a smooth transition into an English-speaking primary school environment.
The course is also suitable for Australian students returning from overseas who have studied in a non-English-speaking environment and require additional English and school readiness support.
- Is an AEAS test report a must-have for a primary-age child applying to an independent school in Australia?
No. An AEAS test report is not a mandatory requirement for all Australian independent primary schools.
However, many independent schools use the AEAS test report as an important assessment tool to evaluate a student’s English language proficiency, academic readiness, and suitability for entry. Admission requirements vary between schools and year levels. Some schools may require an AEAS result, while others may accept alternative assessments or conduct their own interviews and testing.
- Is AIL an official AEAS Preparation Course provider?
Yes. AIL is an official AEAS course partner and delivers Official AEAS Preparation Courses.
AIL is the exclusive AEAS course partner in Victoria and other Australian states excluding NSW.
AIL is also authorised to deliver the Official AEAS Preparation Courses online for students in locations where there is no AEAS course partner available.
- Is the AEAS School Preparation Course (Year 4–6) delivered face-to-face on campus or online?
The AEAS School Preparation Course (Year 4–6) can be delivered face-to-face at an AIL campus or online, depending on students’ locations and learning needs.

The 42-hour Official AEAS School Preparation Course (Year 4–6) is AUD $6,700.

For overseas students, official AEAS school preparation course booklets can be delivered directly by DHL to ensure students receive the required learning resources before commencing the course.
- Is the AEAS score guaranteed after completing this course?
No. AIL cannot guarantee a specific AEAS score, as test results depend on various factors, including but not limited to student’s current English level, learning progress, effort and commitment, and test performance on the day.
However, based on AIL’s experience and student results, students who complete the Official AEAS Preparation Course typically achieve an improvement of 5–20 points in their AEAS test scores.
