Australian Institute of Language (AIL) is an ETS Authorised TOEFL iBT Test Centre located in the heart of Melbourne CBD.
The TOEFL iBT® test measures your ability to use and understand English across four skills — Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing.
TOEFL scores are accepted by more than 13,000 universities and institutions in over 160 countries, including Australia, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada and many other destinations worldwide.

Important TOEFL Update – 2026
From 21 January 2026, there are two versions of the TOEFL iBT test available:
TOEFL iBT Australia
This version is designed for candidates who intend to use their TOEFL results for study, migration or other purposes in Australia. It follows the TOEFL iBT test format used prior to 21 January 2026 and reports scores on the traditional 0–120 scale.
If you require your TOEFL result for an Australian visa, you must select “Taking TOEFL for Australia” when registering and take the test at an authorised test centre. TOEFL iBT Home Edition results are not accepted by the Australian Department of Home Affairs for visa purposes.
Updated TOEFL iBT
The updated TOEFL iBT was introduced globally on 21 January 2026. It features an adaptive Reading and Listening experience, updated task types and a new 1–6 score scale aligned with the CEFR.
The updated TOEFL iBT is accepted by thousands of universities and institutions worldwide. Some Australian education providers may also accept the updated test for admission purposes. However, the updated TOEFL iBT is not currently accepted for Australian visa purposes.
Candidates who need their TOEFL result for an Australian visa should therefore register for TOEFL iBT Australia.

Test Day information
Please arrive at the test centre at least 30 minutes prior to your scheduled test start time.
You must bring in a valid, acceptable ID. If you are not an Australian citizen, you must bring your valid passport on your test day. Certified copies, photos or expired passports cannot be accepted. If you forget to bring your passport, unfortunately, we are unable to let you sit the test or process a refund or test date transfer.
